Compass Minerals comments on White House tariff move

Compass Minerals International, Inc. said salt and pure sodium chloride produced in Canada will be excluded from the 50% ad valorem Section 338 tariffs beginning Sept. 15, 2026, following a recent White House announcement.
The company said the exclusion applies to Canadian-produced salt after The White House announced the change. Compass Minerals operates the world's largest underground salt mine in Goderich, Ontario, and said it serves communities throughout the Northeast and Midwest by helping keep roads, bridges and other transportation infrastructure safe and operational during snow and ice events.
In its statement, the company commented on the tariff decision and acknowledged support it received.
"We are grateful the Trump Administration recognized the critical role our salt products play in public safety and interstate commerce. We would also like to thank U.S. Senator Jerry Moran and others who worked alongside him for their advocacy on behalf of Compass Minerals and our industry."
Compass Minerals is listed on the NYSE under the ticker CMP. The company described itself as a global provider of essential minerals with salt products used for winter road safety as well as consumer, industrial, chemical and agricultural applications. It also said its plant nutrition products are used to improve crop quality and yield. According to the company, it operates 11 production and packaging facilities and has more than 1,800 employees across the U.S., Canada and the U.K.
